Professor A. K. Verma

(Professor)

Prof. Akhilesh K. Verma did his B.Sc (1990), and M.Sc (Organic Chemistry) in 1992 from Bipin Bihari P.G. College, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, U.P. He obtained his Ph.D. from Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi in 2000 and during Ph. D. he joined Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, as a Lecturer on 2nd Feb 1998. He joined Department of Chemistry as a Reader on 23rd Jan 2009; he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010 and Professor in 2013. He also served School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University for nearly one year (2015). He did his postdoctoral research work from 2001 to 2002 (two years) with Prof. Alan R. Katritzky at University of Florida USA, and also worked as visiting Scientist from 28th June 2007 to 31st August 2008 at Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa, USA in the Laboratory of Prof. Richard C. Larock. He is also a Member of Expert Committee of Chemical Sciences (YS) SERB, DST. Dr Verma is recipient of INSA-Exchange Visiting Scientist Award for the 2014, Professor A. S. R. Anjaneyulu 60th Birthday Commemoration Award for the year 2012” by Indian Chemical Society and BOYSCAST Fellowship (2007). His students Monika Patel and Trapti Aggarwal have been nominated by the DST, Govt. of India for the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting at Lindau, Germany for the Year 2017 and 2014. He has supervised 25 students for the award of Ph.D. and has published more than 95 papers in peer-reviewed high impact journals. Dr. Verma’s research interests are (i) Hydroamination of alkynes; Metal/Iodine-catalyzed reactions of alkynes. ii. Design of benzotriazole based ligands for the coupling reaction. iii. Tandem/cascade reaction and C-H activation/functionalization.
