Dr. Pushpal Ghosh
(Associate Professor)

Dr. Pushpal Ghosh joined Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi as Associate Professor in February 2025. Prior to that, he has served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Harisingh Gour Central University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh since October, 2013. He has earned his Ph.D degree from Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata (Degree given by Jadavpur University), under the supervision of Prof. Amitava Patra [FRSC, FASc, FNASc ] in 2009. Then he moved to Germany with prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (AvH) and worked in Ruhr University Bochum, Germany from December 2009 to October 2013 under mentorship of Prof Anja-Verena Mudring [FRSC]. Despite AvH, he also worked in European Research Council (ERC) Project in Germany. His Alma maters are also Presidency College (Presently Presidency University), Kolkata (MSc) and Ramkrishna Mission Residential College Narendrapur, Kolkata (B.Sc with Honours in Chemistry). He is a recipient of several awards and recognitions. A few to name are prestigious SMC Bronze Medal-2023, Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, Inventor Award for the year 2012 at Ruhr University Bochum, Germany, “The Governor of West Bengal’s Award” as an all-round student of the school in an academic year etc. Owing to his contribution in his field, he is inducted as Editorial Board member in prestigious journal Green Chemistry Letters and Reviews (Taylor & Francis Journal with impact factor 5.8) and in Madhya Bharti-Journal of Science, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (M.P.).
Dr Ghosh has received 7 research projects (6 as PI) from different Funding Agencies like SERB, BRNS, UGC etc.. He has supervised two students for PhD, twenty M.Sc. projects and currently guiding four students for PhD (at his earlier institute) and one project student. He has published more than 50 highly cited research articles (h index: 24, i-10 index: 30) in high impact factor international journals, books, book chapters, including one German and one Indian patent (granted). His interest is to synthesis new generation optoelectronic nanomaterials using ionic liquid based green synthesis. He is focussing mainly in three areas:
- Up-converted and down-converted (quantum cutting) lanthanide doped nanomaterials for energy efficient, environmentally benign lighting and energy converting solar cell applications
- Functionalization of graphene oxide and band gap engineering for various optoelectronic applications
- Synthesis of new generation semiconducting nanomaterials for various photonic and bio-photonic applications
